The director
Caroline Kim
In September 2017, I moved with my family to Argentina, in Córdoba, in the heart of the country.
Just before I left, between April and July 2017, I had attended the documentary workshop of the Ateliers Varan in Paris. During this training, I directed the film Queen Hermine, selected at the Traces de Vie festival in Clermont-Ferrand in 2017. My idea was, of course, to make a film during my stay in Argentina… and to prepare for this the best I could. This experience in the Ateliers Varan was profound and intense, and led to the creation of a collective of filmmakers, the collectif Vera.
As soon as I was installed in Cordoba, I started to think about the subject of the documentary I wanted to make. From April 2018 a national debate began in Argentina on the legalization of abortion. I decided to work on the film Socorristas, in immersion in the group. I started filming preparatory sequences alone, and ended up filming all the images without anyone accompanying me. Although it was difficult to work alone, it made it easier for me to get into the small group of Socorristas.
Our family finally returned in April 2019 to France, where we now live.
The editor
Virginie Véricourt
Born in 1966 in Paris, Virginie Véricourt studied Political Science and Anthropology at the EHESS where she obtained her PhD. She immediately fell in love with documentaries when she discovered the films of Rouch, Perrault, Ivens, Pazienza, Van der Keuken, Kramer, etc…
She directed several films and discovered the magic of editing. In 1998, at the end of her studies and after a long stay in Bolivia doing ethnology and filmmaking, she turns to the editing profession. Since then, she has edited numerous documentary films for cinema and television, feature films, medium-length films and shorts, as well as essays and short fiction films. She works a lot in connection with Latin America.
The composer
Deborah Bombard-Golicki
Deborah Bombard-Golicki likes to explore organic sounds, connecting them to emotions in order to give a soul to her music. Cellist and musicologist, she studied at the Conservatory and at the Sorbonne lyrical singing, orchestration, musical writing and choral conducting. At the same time, she studied mathematics at the Pierre and Marie Curie University.
She became a studio and stage cellist and played for several artists.
Following a decisive meeting with a director, Xiao Wang, Deborah composed the music for several film projects. For Socorristas, she explores « feminist punk » and reggae music, combining energy, mixtures of voices, and often great tenderness.
